Women's Soccer Advances Past #18
Stevens Tech in NCAA’s, 2-0

- The Worcester State College women’s soccer team
upset the 18th ranked Ducks of Stevens
Institute of Technology Saturday afternoon in a NCAA
1st Round regional contest hosted by
Union College by the final score of, 2-0. The
Lancers, who have earned the Massachusetts State
College Athletic Conference’s automatic qualifying
bid each of the last three seasons, will advance to
the 2nd round for the first time.
Worcester State will take on Endicott College who
defeated the host Dutchmen of Union 3-2 this
afternoon.
The two teams battled to a scoreless first half with
the Lancers carrying much of the action through the
first 15 minutes of action before Stevens evened out
the momentum for the rest of the half.
In the second half, Stevens Institute had the first
opportunity to get on the board as just 45 seconds
into the half the Ducks had a break away that Lancer
goalkeeper Kim Massa (Westford, MA) got a
piece of but the momentum of the ball still carried
it towards the goal line before freshman Keri
Burden (Bridgewater, MA) cleared the ball out
just as it was nearing the goal line.
Worcester State got the game-winner in the 59th
minute when 1st team All-MASCAC forward
Katelyn Bonetti (Plymouth, MA) took a pass
from MASCAC Player of the Year Lauren Cush
(Hudson, MA) and raced through several defenders
before shooting a shot over the Stevens keeper’s
head to give Worcester State a, 1-0 lead.
Amanda Beaudet (Auburn, MA) got the Lancers
an insurance goal in the 80th minute
potting her 4th goal of the season into
the left corner of the net.
Massa made 6 saves on the day to earn her 13th
shutout of the year and 33rd of her
career.
