#2 Worcester State Defeats #3 Fitchburg State, 2-0

Worcester, MA- The third seeded Worcester State College women’s soccer team advanced to the finals of the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference postseason tournament by defeating the third seeded Fitchburg State College Falcons Wednesday evening by the final score of, 2-0, on Worcester State’s Coughlin Field.  The win improves the Lancers to 14-5-1 on the year, while the Falcons fall to 13-4-1.

Sophomore forward Tiffany Rotatori (Auburn, MA) gave the Lancers a, 1-0, lead when she redirected a bouncing ball off the foot of sophomore Amanda Beaudet (Auburn, MA) in the 6th minute of action.  The two teams would battle back and forth in a physical contest for the next 83 minutes before the Lancers were able to add a late insurance goal in the 89th minute when sophomore Katelyn Bonetti (Plymouth, MA) took off on a break away down the left side and slid a pass over to forward Amanda Santos (Milford, MA) who knocked it into an empty net to give Worcester State the, 2-0, shutout win.

Senior goaltender Kim Massa (Westford, MA) earned her 12th shutout of the year stopping 4 Falcon shots on the night.  The shutout was also Massa’s 32nd of her career at Worcester State which breaks the tie at 31 that she held with former Lancer keeper Kate O’Connor.

Fitchburg State goaltender Emily Swan (Franklin, MA) made 7 saves on the night for the Falcons.

Worcester State will return to the finals for the third straight season as they will travel to Bridgewater State to take on the top seeded Bears Saturday at 1:00 pm.  Worcester State and Bridgewater State battled to a 1-1 draw during their regular season meeting.  Fitchburg State will await word on a possible invitation to the ECAC tournament.
