The Worcester State College women’s soccer team
remained undefeated in MASCAC action on a record
breaking day defeating the visiting Rams of
Framingham State College by the final score of, 5-0,
on the turf of John Coughlin Field Monday
afternoon. Senior goalkeeper
Kim Massa (Westford, MA)
broke the Worcester State record for shutouts in a
season as well as tied the Lancer career shutout
mark. The win improves the Lancers, ranked 10th
in New England, to 11-3 (4-0 MASCAC) on the year,
while Framingham State falls to 3-8 (0-3 MASCAC).
Worcester State, whose 11 victories this season have all been by shutout, got on the board in the 15th minute when sophomore Tiffany Rotatori (Auburn, MA) headed in a pass from senior co-captain Melissa Colwell (Spencer, MA) to give the Lancers a, 1-0, advantage. Sophomore Amanda Santos (Milford, MA) then posted her 8th goal of the season finishing off a beautiful cross by sophomore Kaley Moore (Dracut, MA) to give Worcester State a, 2-0, lead they would take into the break.
Santos potted her second of the game in the 57th minute when she cleaned up her own rebound after knocking one off the far post. Forward Amanda Beaudet (Auburn, MA) gave Worcester State a, 4-0, cushion finishing off Moore’s second assist of the day. Freshman Kimberly Vail (West Newbury, MA) closed out the scoring netting her first collegiate goal in the 88th minute of action assisted by Colwell.
Massa stopped 3 shots on the afternoon for Worcester State. The single season record for shutouts was previously, 10, a mark that Massa reached her sophomore season and shared with former Worcester State net minder Kate O’Connor. Massa is also now tied with O’Connor with 31 career shutouts with 5 regular season games left.
Framingham State goaltender Ashley Baker (Mansfield, MA) made several brilliant saves and finished with 8 stops on the day for the Rams.
Worcester State will return to action on Saturday when they host the Bears of Bridgewater State College. Framingham State will return to the pitch on Saturday when they host Salem State College.
