Worcester State Handles UMass-Dartmouth, 2-1
Worcester, MA- The Worcester State College Lancer women’s soccer team defeated the visiting Corsairs of UMass-Dartmouth by the final score of, 2-1, Tuesday evening at Worcester State’s Coughlin Field. The win improves Worcester State to 13-4-1 on the year while UMass-Dartmouth falls to 2-12-1.
Worcester State got on the board in the 4th
minute as sophomore Katelyn Bonetti (Plymouth,
MA) pushed the ball down the right said and
snuck a shot by the UMass-Dartmouth keeper to give
Worcester State a, 1-0, advantage.
The Lancers increased their lead to, 2-0, in the 27th
minute when junior midfielder Lauren Cush
(Hudson, MA) buried a cross from Bonetti for her
7th goal of the year. The Lancers took that lead
into the break.
UMass-Dartmouth cut the lead in half when sophomore Sarah Killingbeck (Norton, MA) popped a shot past the Worcester State keeper in the 84th minute with sophomore Jackie Erbafina (N. Reading, MA) getting the assist.
Worcester State keeper Kim Massa (Westford, MA) made 1 stop on the night while her counterpart Shawna Howell(Uxbridge, MA) stopped 9 Lancer shots.
Worcester State will close out its regular season on Wednesday when they visit Tufts University who is currently ranked 6th in New England. Worcester State, who has completed their conference schedule, will then await the outcome of this weekend’s MASCAC finales to learn their postseason seed. UMass-Dartmouth will wrap up their season on Saturday when they host Plymouth State University.
