Lancers Defeat Becker, 4-0 For Immediate Release: 9/9/03 Contact: John Meany (508) 929-8730 1st Half 2nd Half Final Worcester State College (1-0) 1 3 4 Becker College (0-1) 0 0 0 Worcester, MA - Jackie Kelly’s (Leominster) goal in the opening minute of play proved to be all the Worcester State College women’s soccer team would need as they opened their season Tuesday evening with a solid 4-0 victory over Becker College at Coughlin Memorial Field on the campus of Worcester State College.The score remained 1-0 until the second half when WSC gave themselves some breathing room. Early in the second half freshman Melissa Colwell (Spencer) launched a shot from 35 yards out to beat the Becker goaltender and give the Lancers a 2-0 lead. Five minutes later freshman Tonya MacKenzie (Swansea) extended the score to 3-0 when she found the back of the net on an outside shot. Midfielder Maeghan McGuirk (Auburn) closed the scoring on a feed from Sara Richard (Newburyport) who also assisted on Kelly’s goal. Goaltender Kim Massa (Westford) notched the shutout for the Lancers making 3 saves in the contest. Denielle Caron (Fiskdale) made 15 saves for Becker in the loss. The Lancers will look to continue their winning ways this Saturday when they host the Engineers of WPI at 4:00 pm.
