For Immediate Release: 9/22/03 Contact: John Meany (508) 929-8730 1st Half 2nd Half OT Final Worcester State College (4-1) 0 0 1 1 UMass-Boston (2-6) 0 0 0 0 Worcester, MA - The Worcester State College women’s soccer team returned to their winning ways Monday evening defeating the Beacons of UMass-Boston 1-0 in overtime at John Coughlin Memorial Field on the campus of Worcester State College.The teams battled to a scoreless draw in regulation with the best scoring opportunity coming from the Lancers with 16 minutes remaining in regulation when Lauren Mislak (Ludlow) sent a pass across the front of the net but Ashley Garabedian (Pepperell) knocked a header just over the top of the crossbar. Worcester, playing in their second consecutive overtime affair, wasted little time in the extra session. In the 92nd minute Mislak and Garabedian got their second chance. Mislak sent another cross towards the front of the net and Garabedian gathered the ball and knocked it past the Beacons keeper to give the Lancers the golden goal victory. Sophomore Anna Gorss (Southboro) got the start in net for the Lancers and made one save in blanking UMass-Boston. Kristy Brooks (Westford) made seven save in a solid effort for the Beacons. Up next for the Lancers are the Bison of Nichols College on Thursday at 4:00 PM in Dudley.
