Worcester, MA - The Worcester State College women’s soccer team remained undefeated Thursday evening as they shutout Rhode Island College, 1-0, at John Coughlin Memorial Field on the campus of Worcester State College.

The Lancers improved their record to 3-0 and have yet to allow a goal this season. RIC drops to 3-3 on the season.

The only score of the game came in the 25th minute as Melissa Colwell (Spencer, MA) drilled a free kick on net and freshman Nicole Santos (Fall River, MA) knocked home the rebound to give the Lancers a 1-0 lead.

Neither team put forth a serious scoring effort for the rest of the game as play stayed in the midfield for much of the contest. RIC did have one last chance to tie the game in the 84th minute but a shot from the right sailed wide into the side of the net.

Goaltender Kim Massa (Westford, MA) was once again solid in net for the Lancers. The freshman goaltender made 9 saves on the night and extended her scoreless minute streak to 270. Massa has still not given up a goal in her collegiate career. Melissa Carpentier (Woonsocket, RI) was excellent in goal for the Anchorwomen making 3 saves in the tough loss for RIC.

The Lancers will next take the field on Saturday for their first road game of the year when they travel to Clark University. RIC will host Eastern Connecticut on Saturday as well.
