Worcester, MA - The Worcester State College women’s soccer team withstood tremendous offensive pressure from the Engineers of WPI in the second half to secure their second victory of the season Saturday afternoon on the turf of John Coughlin Memorial Field on the campus of Worcester State College.

The Lancers tallied the only goal of the contest early in the first half as sophomore Lauren Mislak (Ludlow) beat two defenders around the corner and fed Caroline Goulet (Framingham) at the 12:39 mark.

The second half featured a WPI team that pushed forward and controlled play for most of the half. In the 68th minute WPI had their best scoring chance as the ball got by the Lancer’s keeper and was heading towards an open net before sophomore back Michelle Goncalves (Ludlow) streaked back to the line and cleared the shot preserving the shutout.

Goaltender Kim Massa (Westford) was outstanding in net for WSC making 14 saves along the way. The freshman keeper has now posted two shutouts in her first two collegiate games. Manda Otterman (Hinsdale, IL) made two saves for WPI on the afternoon.

The Lancers will next take the field on Thursday when they continue their home schedule against the Anchorwomen of Rhode Island College. WPI will visit Anna Maria on Monday afternoon at 4:00 pm.
