Lancers Hang On To Beat MCLA, 2-1 For Immediate Release: 10/13/03 Contact: John Meany (508) 929-8730 1st Half 2nd Half Final Worcester State College (6-5) 0 2 2 MCLA (3-7) 0 1 1 Worcester, MA - After taking a 2 goal lead late into the second half, the Worcester State College women’s soccer team held on to defeat the Trailblazers of Massachusetts College, 2-1, Monday evening at Coughlin Memorial Field on the campus of Worcester State College.After the teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half, the Lancers broke the ice with a goal off the foot of sophomore forward Jackie Kelly (Leominster, MA) on a feed from fellow sophomore Lauren Mislak (Ludlow) two minutes into the second half. Worcester State extended the lead in the 62nd minute when the tandem of Kelly and Mislak struck again with Mislak finding the back of the net after Kelly got a touch on a cross from Ashley Anderson (Worcester, MA). Massachusetts College put on a fierce rally late in the second half and got to within one score when freshman forward Katelyn Lorenz (Greenfield, MA) beat the Lancer keeper on a free kick from 25 yards out but were unable to get the equalizer. The victory improves the Worcester State record to 6-5 on the year while MCLA drops to 3-7. Goaltender Kim Massa (Westford, MA) got the win in net for WSC making one save on the night. Lori McKenzie (Halifax, MA) made 7 saves for MCLA in the loss. The Lancers will look to continue their winning ways this Wednesday when they travel to Emmanuel.
