Worcester State Losed MASCAC Opener, 56-43

 

Worcester, MA – Fitchburg State College went on a 19-4 run to open the second half Tuesday evening increasing a 1 point halftime advantage to 16 in just over 10 minutes as the visiting Falcons upended the host Worcester State College Lancers, 56-43, in Lancer Gymnasium.  The game was the MASCAC opener for both teams.  The loss drops the Lancers to 7-4 on the year while the Falcons won their 10th straight improving to 10-1 on the year.  The victory for the Falcons was also Head Coach Walter Paschal’s 100th career win.

Senior D’yana Delpero (Peabody, MA) scored 8 points in the Falcon’s second half surge as she led all scorers on the night with 18 points.  Delpero was the only Fitchburg State player in double figures as sophomore Steph Payette (Townsend, MA) scored 9 points while forward Jen Fontaine (Dracut, MA) and junior Merry Donovan (Milton, MA) each added 8 points.

Maureen Lemay (Nashua, NH) led the Lancers with 13 points.  Senior Rachael Odugbela (Providence, RI) and junior Lindsay DelleChiaie (Leominster, MA) scored 11 and 10 points in the loss.

Worcester State out rebounded the Falcons 41-25 however did not take care of the ball shooting just 34.1% and turning the ball over 36 times.

Worcester State will travel to Eastern Connecticut on Thursday to take on the Warriors.  Fitchburg State will travel to Mt. Ida.
