January 27, 2007 Lancer Women Knock of Salem State, 63-47 Worcester, MA – The Worcester State College women’s basketball team had four players reach double digits in scoring as the hosts defeated the visiting Lady Vikings of Salem State College by the final score of, 63-47, Saturday afternoon in Lancer Gymnasium. The result leaves both teams with 10-8 (3-3 MASCAC) records on the season. The Lancers took a, 25-19, lead into the break as junior Lindsay DelleChiaie (Leominster, MA) led the way for the Lancers with 7 points. Freshman Brianne Flanders (Southampton, MA) chipped in with 6 points on 3-of-3 shooting from the field. The Lancer defense was able to hold the Lady Vikings to just 31.8% shooting from the field in the first stanza. Junior Lindsey Watkins (Wareham, MA) led the way for Salem Sate with 7 first half points. A pair of Katelynn Lunnin (South Boston, MA) three pointers in the opening 2 minutes of the second half quickly erased the Worcester State advantage; tying the game at, 25-25. The game would be tied 6 more times in the half before a three pointer by Maureen Lemay (Nashua, NH) gave the Lancers a one point lead and sparked a 13-0 run that would prove to be the difference in the contest. Lemay finished with a double-double scoring a team-high 15 points and hauling down 11 rebounds. Senior Rachael Odugbela (Providence, RI) and DelleChiaie each scored 12 points while Flanders finished with 10 points on the day. Watkins scored 15 points and had 7 boards to pace Salem State. Lunnin added 11 points in the loss for the visitors. Worcester State will travel to Fitchburg State College on Tuesday to take on the Falcons. Salem State will travel to non-conference foe Eastern Connecticut on Tuesday evening. ##### |
