Lancer Women Hoopsters Defeat Framingham, 62-51

Worcester, MA – The Worcester State College women’s basketball team won their first Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference game of the season defeating the visiting Rams of Framingham State by the final score of, 62-51, Tuesday evening in Lancer Gymnasium.  The win improves Worcester State to 8-6 (1-2 MASCAC) while Framingham State falls to 6-6 (0-3 MASCAC).

The Lancers took a three point lead, 24-21, into the break as junior Lindsay DelleChiaie (Leominster, MA) was a perfect 3 for 3 from the field for 8 first half points.  Senior Jackie Jenkins (Ashland, MA) added 6 points in the frame as the Lancers struggled from the floor shooting just 35.7%.  Framingham State was paced by junior Christina Bordini (Chelmsford, MA) and sophomore Allie Hart (Somerset, MA) who each scored 6 points in the first half.  Both teams struggled with turnovers as each squad registered 17 in the first half.

The teams traded the lead early in the second half and the Rams led, 37-35, at the 11:38 mark before Worcester State went on a 10-0 run to take a, 45-37, lead with 8:33 remaining which proved to be the difference in the contest as Framingham State was unable to get the deficit to less than 6 points.

DelleChiaie led all scorers with a season high 19 points, including 4 three pointers.  Junior Maureen Lemay (Nashua, NH) and Jenkins each finished in double digits with 10 points each.  Lemay also hauled in 8 rebounds on the night.   

Framingham was led by Bordini with 18 points and 9 rebounds.  Junior Robin Morrow (Belmont, MA) and Hart each finished with 10 points each.  Hart also chipped in with 5 assists on the night.

Worcester State returns to action on Thursday when they host non-conference opponent Tufts University.  Framingham State will travel to Babson College on Thursday.
