(Courtesy UMass-Dartmouth Sports Information) NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Worcester State raced to a 34-21 halftime lead and went on to defeat the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women’s basketball team, 71-51, in the first game of a doubleheader at the Tripp Athletic Center Tuesday evening. The Lancers broke a 5-5 tie with a 17-2 run midway through the first half and were never headed. WSC made 12 of 27 shots in the first half for 44.4 per cent, while limiting the Corsairs to five of 29 for 17.2 per cent. Junior guard Ashley Chard (Burlington, CT/St. Paul HS) led UMass Dartmouth with 10 points, while sophomore guard Vicki Andruszkiewicz (Danvers, MA/Danvers HS) had seven points and nine rebounds. Rachel Odugbela led Worcester State with 12 points and Jackie Jenkins added 11. Stasia Twomey had six rebounds for the Lancers as Worcester State out rebounded the Corsairs, 45-39. The Corsairs fell to 0-2 with the defeat, while Worcester State improved to 2-0. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they host Pine Manor next Tuesday evening, while WSC will host Trinity on Thursday, November 30th. |
