Worcester State Rolls Past Framingham, 59-44

Worcester, MA - The Worcester State College women’s basketball team beat the visiting Lady Rams of Framingham State Tuesday evening by the score of, 59-44, in Lancer Gymnasium on the campus of Worcester State College. The win improves the Lancers to 12-10 overall and 7-2 in MASCAC play. Framingham State drops to 5-13 and 2-7 in the conference.

The Lancers used an 18-4 run in the first half to take control of the game behind balanced scoring and good work on the glass. The first half saw 7 Lancers score, led by junior co-captain Donna Zwemke (Ware, MA) who had 8 in the first stanza. Worcester State out rebounded the Lady Rams 24-16 in the half. Framingham State was led by freshman Meghan Staffiere (Norwood, MA) who had 5 points.

Framingham struggled from the floor all evening as they hit only 24% of their shots. Worcester State, despite 21 turnovers, was able to extend their lead in the second half and earn the 59-44 victory.

The Lancers were paced by Zwemke who finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds notching her 8th double-double of the season. Junior Jenn Harris (Middleboro, MA) was strong on the inside also tallying a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Kathy Ward (Fall River, MA) added 11 points and dished out 5 assists.

Framingham was led by Staffiere with 13 points and 6 boards while Katie Kennedy (Norwell, MA) chipped in with 7 points.

Worcester State will return to action on Saturday when they host the Trailblazers of MCLA. Framingham will host non-conference foe UMass-Boston on Thursday night.
