Worcester State Stays Unbeaten in MASCAC, 56-39

Worcester, MA - The Worcester State College women’s basketball team remained undefeated in conference action this season by defeating the visiting Bears of Bridgewater State College by the final score of, 56-39, in Lancer Gymnasium on the campus of Worcester State College Tuesday evening.

The Lancers jumped out to a 27-14 halftime lead despite shooting just 30% from the field. Worcester State attempted 15 more shots in the half as they out-rebounded the Bears 29-14, including 10 offensive rebounds in the first stanza. WSC was led by Jenn Harris’ (Middleboro, MA) 10 first half points on 5 of 9 shooting. Sophomore guard Amanda Kowal (Oxford, MA) chipped in with 7 points. Bridgewater State was led by Jessica Worden (Rockland, MA) who had 6 points in the half.

Bridgewater State made a run early in the second half to close the margin to 34-26, but the Lancers promptly answered with a 14-2 run to put the game out of reach. Worcester State continued to own the offensive glass in the second half getting 10 more offensive boards. For the game, the Lancers out-rebounded the Bears, 51-36.

Harris continued to be a problem for the Bridgewater State defense as she added 8 more points in the paint to finish with a game-high 18. Junior Donna Zwemke (Ware, MA) also scored 8 in the second half and finished with 10 points and 12 rebounds for her 4th double-double of the season.

Worden finished with a team-high 13 points and 7 rebounds for Bridgewater State.

The fifth straight win for the Lancers improves their record to 10-7, while Bridgewater falls to 7-7, 1-3 in the MASCAC.

Worcester State will return to action on Saturday when they visit Salem State College. Bridgewater will be in conference action on Thursday as they host the Lady Vikings of Salem.
