Worcester State College Track
and Field Highlights @ the US Coast Guard Academy The Worcester State Mens Track and Field team qualified 12 athletes (9 individuals and another 3 who competed only on relays) for the DIII New England Championships. Though qualifying a solid group, it was a frustrating championship however, with a number of Lancers finishing just out of the scoring in a number of events. Junior Mark Johnson competed in five events and did score, placing 4th overall in the long jump with a leap of 217.50 in the event. He finished 10th in the javelin with a toss of 1640 and 10th in the 400m running 50.87 in the long sprint. He finished his Saturday with a 22.85 for 9th in the 200m. He also teamed with Pius Oyelohunnu, Bill Fitzgerald, and Nate Starling in the 4 x 100m relay to run 44.01 to finish in 9th there as well. Starling also raced individually running 15.99 for 10th place in the 110m hurdles. Cam Herzog competed in the Javelin (15910/13th place) and in the High Jump. Senior Nate Perreault also threw the javelin though not making finals (1458). Rob Lind on pace for a personal record early in the 10,000m was a little too aggressive, causing him to fade to 33:36.14 in the event. Chris Mancuso competed in the 800(1:59.36) and led off the 4 x 400m relay, teaming with Fitzgerald, Oyelohunnu, and RJ Stahelski to run 3:36.52 in the relay. The Lancers finished in 21st place overall as a team. |
