The Worcester State Men’s Track and Field team continued their successful spring season with a number of solid performances at the Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational at Fitchburg State.  On a day that started overcast and damp, sophomore Adam Malek set a brighter tone in the first race of the day, the 10,000meter event. Malek finished third overall in a time of 33:10.07 to run his personal best and a DIII New England qualifier in the event.  Also, he joins teammates Forest Wilber and Rob Lind as the third Lancer to qualify in the 10,000m this spring. Freshman Nate Starling who was a D3 NCAA provisional qualifier indoors in the high hurdles, took his first step toward this goal outdoors.  Starling finished second overall in the 110m hurdles and qualified for the DIII New England Championships, with a time of 15.94 in the event. He also scored in the 100m dash (7th in 11.73) and the triple jump (7th with a leap of 39’4”).  Freshman teammate Dennis Kane joined Nate with a time of 16.39 in the 110 m hurdles to also qualify for the DIII New England meet and a 4th place finish in this meet. Team captain Mark Johnson added to the qualifiers/scorers.  Johnson was 3rd in the Javelin with a toss of 161’9”, 4th in the 400m with a time of 50.48 in the event, and 4th in the 200m with a time of 22.61 in the shorter event. Already having qualified for DIII New Englands in the Javelin, Johnson added the 400m and the 200m to the list.  He also met the qualifier for the DIII ECAC meet in the 400m. In the pole vault, freshmen again helped in the scoring with Lou Dinatale vaulting 12’3.50” for third place and Wiilliam Fitzgerald going 10’4” to finish in a tie for sixth. Another freshman, Cam Herzog, took a third in the high jump leaping 5’11.25” in the vertical jump. Stellar distance ace, junior Forest Wilber, ran a time of 4:10.82 in the 1500m to finish 6th in the event.
