Worcester State College
Men's Track Meet Recap

Worcester State College Track and Field Highlights

3/22/08 at the Northeastern “Husky Open” Track & Field Meet

Non Scoring Meet

With the college on spring break, the Worcester State men’s track and field team sent a “skeleton crew” to the Northeastern “Husky Open” Track & Field meet. Those who attended did well however, obtaining several qualifying performances in this first meet of the outdoor season. Starting off the day, distance tandem, juniors Forest Wilber and Rob Lind competed in the 10,000m race. Both ran personal records while Wilber’s time also broke the school record in the event.  In addition, his time of 32:59.35 is a DIII New England and ECAC qualifier. For Lind his time of 33:35.29 was a DIII New England qualifier and broke his own personal best by almost 30 seconds. Freshman Nate Starling had a busy day competing in three events. Starling won the 110m hurdles with a strong crosswind affecting the race. His time of 16.02 was good enough, however, to qualify him for the DIII New England Championships held in May. Right after his hurdle race, Starling also finished third in the 100m dash with a time of 11.56 in that event.  Later in the afternoon, he finished off the day with a 5th place finish in the 400m hurdles. Junior Chris Mancuso also had a productive day with a 4:19.00 personal best in the 1500m and then running a 53.86 in the 400m not too long afterward. Teammate freshman Andrew Thornhill finished just in front of Mancuso in the same heat of the 400m with a time of 53.22 in the event.  Taking advantage of an early “decent weather” day, sets the tone for the rest of the season.  Next week the full squad will compete at the Worcester City meet and look for more fine performances from everyone.
