Men's Soccer Gets First Win of Year, 4-1

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State College men’s soccer team rallied from an early, 1-0, deficit to score four unanswered goals and notch their first win of the season posting a, 4-1, victory over the visiting Bison of Nichols College Wednesday evening in front of a strong crowd at Coughlin Field.  The win resets the Lancers record at 1-2 on the young season, while the loss is the first of the year for Nichols who are now 2-1.

The Bison got on the board at the 5:39 mark of the first half when a cross in front of the Worcester State net was redirected by a Lancer defender into the net for an own goal giving the visitors an early, 1-0, lead.

Worcester State evened the score at 16:47 when Matt Brothers (Auburn, MA) banged home a rebound off a corner kick.  The Lancers took the lead for good in the 36th minute when sophomore Wes Simoes (Charlton, MA) cleaned up a deflection off the Bison keeper to give the hosts a, 2-1, advantage.

The score remained the same until the 86th minute when junior midfielder Daniel Padilla (Worcester, MA) scored on a feed from forward Miguel Vidal (Grafton, MA) to give Worcester State an insurance goal.  Junior Brian Andrade (Hudson, MA) rounded out the scoring knocking home his third goal of the season after senior Eddy Baptista (Pawtucket, RI) hit the cross bar.

Lancer keeper Daniel Hansen (Worcester, MA) made three saves on the night earning his first victory of the season.  Nichols keeper Clayton Johnson (Williamstown, MA) stopped 6 Worcester State offerings in the loss.

Worcester State will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Southern Maine.  Nichols will host Gordon on Saturday morning.
