KEENE, N.H. - Dan Riso's (Red Hook, N.Y.) goal at the 83:40 mark of the second half lifted Hobart College to a 2-1 victory over Worcester State College in the first game of the WEGOTSOCCER-Diadroa Soccer Showdown in Keene on Saturday.
Riso buried a crossing ball from Sam Wisner (Wayland, Mass.) for the game-winner.
Both teams traded goals in the first half. Worcester State got on the board first on a nice individual effort by junior forward Brian Andrade (Hudson, Mass.) at the 20:44 mark. Hobart answered seven minutes later when Justin Dotzman (Holland, Pa.) finished off a lead pass from Keenan Simons (Bradenton, Fla.).
Worcester State goalie Daniel Hanson (Worcester, Mass.) kept it a tie game when he tipped a short direct kick attempt by Tyler Webster (Acton, Mass.) over the crossbar early in the second half. Later in the half, Hobart goalie Phil DaCosta (Manchester, N.H.) made a sliding save on a shot by Lancer forward Eder Baptista (Pawtucket, R.I.).
That set the stage for Riso's winning goal later in the half. DaCosta finished with two saves for the Statesman (1-0), who are ranked 18th in the NSCAA pre-season poll. Hanson stopped four shots for the Lancers (0-1).
