Beats Bridgewater in 2OT, 1-0

Worcester State junior Matt Brothers
(Auburn, MA) buried a penalty kick with
1:29 left in double overtime to send the
Lancers home with a thrilling, 1-0, win
Saturday morning over the visiting Bears of
Bridgewater State College at Coughlin
Field. The win improves Worcester State to
8-6-1 (3-1-1 MASCAC) while the Bears fall to
5-7-2 (3-2 MASCAC). The game-winner was
Brothers’ second of the week and fourth of
the season.
The teams played to a, 0-0, draw through the first 108:31 as the Lancers out shot the visitors 16-10 on the day.
Both teams had several chances through regulation but both goalkeepers were up to the task stonewalling the opposition’s offense. Worcester State keeper Dan Hansen (Worcester, MA) made a game saving stop in regulation stopping a Bridgewater State penalty kick. It was the second penalty kick in two games that Hansen has stopped as he also made a save in Worcester State’s 1-0 overtime win at Wheaton.
For the game, Hansen made 9 saves, while counterpart Ryan Seifert (Ludlow, MA) stopped 7 Lancer shots.
Worcester State will return to action on Wednesday when the travel to Clark University. Bridgewater State will travel to Johnson and Wales University next Thursday.
