Worcester State College
Men's Soccer Story
|
September 21, 2006 The Worcester State men’s Soccer team shook of their early season losses and played like a 5-1 team instead of a 1-5 team while thoroughly manhandling the hosts to day in Paxton. Worcester State had more intensity, more passion, more energy, and more game on this day and behind a hat trick from Sophomore Brian Andrade, (Hudson, MA) they had themselves a 5-0 victory. Just 12 minutes into the game the score was 2-0 as the visitors capitalized on some shaky Anna Maria defense. Andrade scored the game winner at the 7:00 minute mark and Sophomore Eric Owens (Newton, NH) the second off a direct kick five minutes later. The shell shocked hosts were just starting to settle into the game when Matt Brothers sent Freshman Alex Russo (Worcester, MA – Holy Name) in alone who calmly put one in the back of the net to sufficiently crush the hopes of the Amcats. The second half would see the completion of Andrade’s hat trick. He put away a PK at the 49:00 mark and scored a quick put away off of a deflection into the middle at the 70 minute mark. Junior Albert Jenkins recorded the shut-out for Worcester State making 7 saves in the game. Anna Maria drops to 4-5 and plays conference opponent Nichols College next Wednesday. Worcester State improves to 2-5 and hosts Salem State on Saturday. |
