BABSON PARK, MA. -- The Babson College men’s soccer team capped off a successful opening weekend with a big 6-0 win over visiting Worcester State College as part of the Babson Invitational Tournament on Saturday. It was the second straight shutout win for the Beavers (2-0-0), who topped New England College, 4-0, on Friday, while Worcester State (0-2-0) lost its second straight.
Babson put the contest away with a huge first half, scoring four goals in the first 28 minutes of play. Junior Garrett Bates (Norwell, MA) got things started with a goal just 3:30 in, and senior co-captain Derek Losi (Weymouth, MA) made it 2-0 with an unassisted score at the 10-minute mark. Sophomores Tim Winn (Sutton, MA) and Juan Rodriguez (Sao Paulo, Brazil) then added goals at 17:58 and 28:15, respectively, to give the home team a 4-0 advantage at the half.
The Beavers continued to dominate in the second half, as Losi scored his second goal of the game and third of the season just one minute in. Senior Mark Dayvie (Cambridge, VT) then capped the scoring with his first of the year at 80:52, giving Babson the 6-0 win.
Junior goalkeeper Chris Necklas (Guilford, CT) made one save in earning his 23rd career shutout for Babson, while junior Albert Jenkins (Thomaston, GA) turned away nine shots in net for Worcester State. |
