Worcester State Eliminated By Westfield, 1-0

Worcester, MA
- The Worcester State College Lancer men’s soccer team was eliminated from the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference postseason tournament Wednesday evening, falling in the semifinals to the Westfield State College Owls by the final score of 1-0.  Worcester State finishes the season with a 7-11-1 record.  Westfield State, who advances to the finals on Saturday, is now 10-8.

The lone tally on the afternoon came in the 59th minute when junior midfielder Chris Spicer (Carver, MA) played a beautiful cross which junior forward Nick Gumlaw (Agawam, MA) headed past the Worcester State keeper to give the Owls the 1-0 lead.

Worcester State had their best opportunity of the day when an Eder Baptista (Pawtucket, RI) redirected a free kick with 2:34 remaining in the game but the shot was stopped on a diving save by Westfield State keeper Mark Tiffany (Easthampton, MA)

Worcester State goalkeeper Albert Jenkins (Thomaston, GA) made 6 saves on the afternoon for the Lancers, while Tiffany stopped 4 Lancer offerings.

Westfield State now awaits the winner of the #1 Salem State/#4 Bridgewater State semifinal match which is being played at 6:00 pm tonight at Salem State.
