Bridgewater, MA  In MASCAC men’s soccer action, the Bears dropped a tough game to Worcester State College, 1-0, from Swenson Field this afternoon. With the win Worcester State improves to 6-9-1 and more importantly 4-0-1 in MASCAC play as the Lancers remain atop the conference standings. The loss drops the Bears to 4-8-1 overall and 3-2-1 in conference play.

The game started as a defensive struggle with each team failing to score in the first half. The Lancers changed that just over ten minutes into the second half with a sensational goal. Junior midfielder Edger Baptista (Pawtucket, RI) provided a perfect cross to teammate Brian Andrade (Hudson, MA) who headed the ball into the far corner of the net. This was Andrade’s team-leading 12th goal of the season.

Shining in net for the Lancers, was junior goalkeeper Albert Jenkins (Thomaston, GA) who had six saves en route to his third shutout of the season. Bridgewater’s John Naugton (Braintree, MA) finished with three saves.

The Bears will look to rebound next Thursday when they host Johnson & Wales University at 3:30.  Worcester is back in action next Saturday as the Lancers host a key MASCAC match against Westfield State College at 2:30.
