Tri-State Invitational 9/29/07
MEN:
The
Worcester State College Men’s Cross Country Team continued its impressive season
with a second place team finish at the Tri States meet held at CCRI in Lincoln,
Rhode Island. This was the best team finish for the Lancers ever at this meet.
The squad placed three in the top six while falling just six points shy of cross
town rival WPI (WPI 31, WSC 37). In a repeat of last week’s city meet, Clark
University finished third of eight teams (69pts) as the three Worcester squads
dominated the competition. Adding to the delight for the Lancers was the
individual performance of Forest Wilber who set a course record on the slightly
revised course running 26:22 over the 8K distance. CCRI head coach and meet
director Greg Cornell commented that Wilber’s time was the fastest of any run on
this or any other previous course setup at the CCRI campus. Following Wilber
to the finish for WSC was Sophomore Adam Malek and junior Rob Lind in fifth and
sixth respectively. Both runners were given the same time of 27:08 though Lind
was edged by Malek at the tape. Finishing out the top five for the Lancers was
junior Chris Mancuso in 21st place in 29:15 ( 14th for
scoring) and junior Andrew Rossi in 24th in 29:37 ( 15th
in scoring ).
In addition, the next group of runners continues to improve and close the gap
between them and those just ahead. A strong effort was given by sophomore Andrew
O’Brien as he approaches securing a position in the top seven. Freshman Robert
Stahelski ran seventh for the team this week finishing with a stong kick in 48th
place overall. Junior Derrick Willand improved a minute and a half from last
year to finish 50th overall. Sophomore Norman Everett also improved
greatly knocking off more than two minutes off last year’s time. Joe Bianchi ran
his first race of the year and was solid in his debut while Joe Bourdelais made
a strong effort in returning to his competitive form of last season.
WOMEN
Worcester State Women’s Cross
Country team had a strong showing at the CCRI Invitational. The team finished 3rd
out of 8 teams. The team was lead by Sophomore Kara Antrim placing 6th
overall with a 21:39 minutes, following closely behind was Senior Lindsay
Shields placing 7th with a time 21:48. Junior Becky Kniss also
medaled for the Lancers finishing 13th with a time of 22:20. The rest
of the lancer squad kept a tight pack helping distance themselves from 5 other
teams including Rhode Island College, and UMass-Boston New England Alliance
teams. The pack included Angela Roux 26th, Jillian Parzych 27th,
Sally Geary 29th, Adrienne Fisher 32nd, and Rachel
Sullivan 35th. The team heads into two weeks of training with one
final tune up meet at Western New England College before the MASCAC
