Worcester City Meet 9/22/07

MEN:

Worcester State College hosted the inaugural running of their new home course at Moore State Park in Paxton MA. Using the new course for the yearly held Worcester City Meet,

The course provided a true test of cross country running skills and talent. Worcester State’s Forest Wilber was the overall winner of this challenging race leading from start to finish while establishing the standard for the five mile course at 27:12. The Lancers had three of the top five finishers in the competition, but had to settle for second place (42pts) to a solid WPI contingent (30 pts) that had three of the top six and eight in the top fifteen. For Worcester State it was still their strongest finish in recent years as the team continues to be impressive.  Following Worcester State, was MASCAC rival Fitchburg state in third with 69 pts, Clark University in fourth with 103pts and Anna Maria College being given a score of 151 pts. For Worcester State, sophomore Adam Malek was fourth overall in 28:32 followed by teammate and junior, Rob Lind in 28:57.  The Lancer’s fourth runner was junior Chris Mancuso who put on a late surge to finish strongly in fifteenth place. Rounding out the top seven were junior Andrew Rossi who also had a strong second half of the race to finish well in 23rd place, freshmen Steve Gemme just behind Rossi for 24th place, and senior Justin Snair (28th place). The Lancer men will test this challenging course again at their conference championships in late October ( MASCAC Championships-October 20.2007).

For now they will prepare for next week at the Tri- States Meet held at the CCRI  campus in Lincoln RI.
