Head Coach - David
Lindberg Personal development, winning and
graduating students are synonymous with his Coach Lindberg’s teams are known for their athleticism, aggressive defense and rebounding. His teams often have good depth and chemistry. The Lancers define themselves by their trademark FRED (Fast break, Rebound, Effort/Execute, and Defend). These team traits give Coach Lindberg the confidence to continually challenge his team by playing against high-level competition (nationally and regionally). This season the Lancers will compete in the V Foundation Classic (Salem, Virginia) and the St. Joe’s (Maine) Mad Monk Tournament. Recently the Lancers have competed in the highly regarded Menards Holiday Classic in Eau Claire, Wisconsin and the Kean University Tournament in New Jersey. During the 1997-98 season Coach Lindberg took his team to the Coconut Coast Classic in Hawaii, where the Lancers faced Hawaii-Hilo and Pikeville (Kentucky), two high-profile Division II teams. The trip included eight days and two islands. While a student at Worcester State College, Coach Lindberg was a three-year starter and captain for the basketball team. Also, he was a member of the WSC football and track teams. Following his 1991 graduation, Coach Lindberg served as an assistant coach for four years under Coach Tom Moore (UConn & Quinnipiac). He helped lead the 1992-93 Lancers (19-8) to the ECAC play-offs. The 1993-94 Lancers qualified for the NCAA Tournament with a MASCAC Championship and 18-10 record. Coach Lindberg has guided the Lancers into two MASCAC Championship games during the past three seasons. During that time span the Lancers have a record of 47-34, including a 1998 bid to the ECAC Play-offs. Their 18 wins during the 1997-98 campaign were one shy of a school record. The Lancers are destined to break that record during 2001-02. In 1997, Coach Lindberg started the first WSC Basketball Camp and Instructional Clinics. Midnight Madness and the Lancers Golf Tournament have become popular annual events. Coach Lindberg is continually trying to improve and expand the basketball program as well as his coaching abilities. He has led teams during the Bay State games to medals in 1996 (Silver) and 1997 (Bronze). He is a congressman for the National Association of Basketball Coaches and was President of the Worcester Area Basketball Coaches Association for two years. David Lindberg is a staff assistant in the WSC Athletic Department, and a member of the WSC Athletic Hall of Fame Committee. He is responsible for remodeling the Oscar Larsson Fitness Center.
