Worcester State Outlasts Regis, 84-70
WESTON, MASS.- Worcester
State College Men’s Basketball defeated Regis College 84-70 in NCAA Div.
III Men’s Basketball non-conference action Tuesday night. Senior guard
Ryan Frassica (Brockton, Mass.) poured in a game-high 26 points
en route to snapping Regis’ three-game winning streak. With the
victory, WSC improves to 2-2, while Regis falls to 3-2 overall.
The visiting Lancers shot the ball efficiently all night, to the tune of 48% from the floor, and 46.7% from three-point range (7-for-15). Frassica went 7-for-16 throughout the evening, including 3-for-6 from the perimeter, and 9-for-9 from the charity stripe. Senior guard Will Spont (Bellingham, Mass.) offered Frassica solid support recording 18 points and eight rebounds in merely 23 minutes of play, due largely to foul trouble.
Regis, up 41-35 at the half, missed seven consecutive shots and
committed three turnovers to open the second-half, and failed to score
for nearly five minutes. WSC claimed their first lead with 15:59 to
play in the game and never relinquished it. Regis fought hard
throughout, but never got over the hump. Frassica’s three-pointer with
4:10 to play gave the Lancers an eight point lead and most of the
momentum. Regis desperately searched for perimeter offense but couldn’t
find the hot hand.
