2006-07 Worcester State College
Men's Basketball Preview
The 2006-07 Worcester State College men’s basketball team will have a new look this season as they will have to overcome the loss of their top two scorers from a year ago. Last season the Lancers advanced to the MASCAC tournament finals after knocking off the top seeded Owls of Westfield State College in the tournament semifinals. This season the Lancers will be looking to take a strong inside presence and incorporate that with a young backcourt. To compete for the MASCAC regular season and postseason tournament titles.
Worcester
State’s front court boasts senior Mark Retallic (Oxford, MA) who averaged
11.0 points per game a year ago to go along with 5.8 rebounds and 24 blocked
shots. Junior Will Spont (Bellingham, MA) is a versatile player who can
play inside and outside. Spont averaged 10.1 points and 6.1 rebounds per game
in 05-06. Rounding out the frontcourt is senior Winfred Rembert (New Haven,
CT) who is a force on the boards. Rembert blocked 29 shots a year ago and
led the Lancers in rebounding with 8.1 boards per game. Senior Bobby Wilson
(Hamden, CT) and Devon Jarvis (Queen, NY) will be counted on for
valuable production off the bench along with newcomers Darren Schmidt
(Shelburne Falls, MA), Josh Kozaczka (Webster, MA) and Patrick Hamilton
(Templeton, MA).
The backcourt is unproven for the Lancers with the loss a pair of All-MASCAC
performers. Transfer Matt Dickens (New Haven, CT) should present
problems for the opposition at both guard positions. Ryan Frassica
(Brockton, MA), Ty Bacon (W. Brookfield, MA) and Justin Sheehan will join
returners Randy Gratton (Ware, MA) and Jose Roman (Framingham, MA)
in the guard mix as Coach Lindberg tries to find this winning combination.
Freshmen Francisco Albino (Southbridge, MA) and James Ngo (Fitchburg,
MA) will also make a push for playing team as the rotation gets sorted out
as the season moves along.
