Worcester State Men Lose to #1 Salem, 74-63
The
No. 1 seed Salem State Vikings (23-2) came from behind to defeat No. 4
seed Worcester State (11-16) in a semi-final round game of the
Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) postseason
tournament played at James Twohig Gymnasium. The victory advances the
Vikings to Saturday's championship game at 2:00 pm at Twohig Gym.
The Lancers led the Vikings, 35-29, at the end of the first half The Lancers received 11 first half points from Mark Retallic and 10 points from Ryan Frassica. Salem, who shot a miserable 29% from the field (9-for-31) in the opening period, was led by sophomore Dylan Holmes' 10 points and six rebounds.
The second half proved to be a different story. SSC, who hit 15 of 33
attempts from the field in the final period, received a game-high 23
points from Holmes who also pulled down 10 rebounds. The Vikings also
received 13 points from senior forward Brandon McCombs (Springfield) and
12 points each from senior swingman Eric Downie (Medford) and junior
guard Alex Finn (Ashby). Finn drained four three-pointers for his 12
points. McCombs was SSC's top rebounder with 13.
