   Worcester State Men Lose to Bridgewater, 79-71

Worcester, MA – The Bridgewater State College Bears got a career-high 35 points from junior guard Tom Cuddihy (Scituate, MA) as the visitors defeated the host Lancers of Worcester State College by the final score of, 79-71, Tuesday evening on Senior Night at Lancer Gymnasium.  The loss for the Lancers drops them to 10-14 (5-6 MASCAC) on the year while Bridgewater State improves to 16-6 (8-2 MASCAC).  Bridgewater secured a first round bye with the win as they currently stand in 2nd place.  Worcester State remains in 3rd place with just one game left in their regular season schedule.

Cuddihy paced the Bears in the first stanza scoring 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting including 4 treys.  At one point in the half, Cuddihy scored 10 straight points for Bridgewater State.  Senior Adam Rose (Harwich, MA) also reached double figures for the visitors scoring 11 points.  K.C. Grandfield (Dartmouth, MA) chipped in with 5 assists, many on Cuddihy baskets.  Ryan Frassica (Brockton, MA) led Worcester State in the first half scoring 13 points.  Junior Will Spont (Bellingham, MA) added 9 points to keep the hosts close at the break.

The Lancers battled back and took the led on a Devon Jarvis (Queens, NY) lay-up with 10:59 remaining in the game.  After the lead traded hands several times, Cuddihy struck again breaking the tie for the final time with a three pointer at 5:31 giving Bridgewater State a, 61-58, lead that they would not relinquish.

In the loss, the Lancers had four players reach double figures in scoring.  Spont finished with a team-high 19 points.  Frassica totaled 15 points on the night.  Jarvis and senior Winfred Rembert (New Haven, CT) each posted double-doubles with 11 points and 11 boards for Jarvis and 10 points and 11 rebounds for Rembert.

Cuddihy, who surpassed 1,000 points for his career in Bridgewater State’s last game, moved into 20th place on the Bears all-time scoring list with, 1,036 points.  Rose finished with 20 points and senior Derek Thompson (Hyannis, MA) scored 17 in the win.  Grandfield ended up with 8 assists on the night.

Worcester State returns to action on Saturday when they travel to first place Salem State.  Bridgewater State hosts the same team on Thursday night.
