Worcester State Rolls Past Becker, 77-40
Worcester, MA
– The Worcester State College Lancer men’s basketball team got their
first win of 2007 knocking off the visiting Hawks of Becker College,
77-40, Sunday afternoon in Lancer Gymnasium. The win inches Worcester
State closer to .500 as they reset at 4-6 while Becker falls to 1-10.
The Lancers were able to combine strong shooting from the field along
with a dominance on the boards as the Lancers shot 51.6% from the filed
and out rebounded the visitors by 30 (54-24).
Worcester State took a 14 point lead at the break holding Becker to just
7 first half field goals. The Lancers had 9 players find the scoring
column in the first half with senior Devon Jarvis (Queen, NY) and
freshman Justin Sheehan (Carver, MA) each posting 6 points.
Becker’s Shawn Fuller (New Haven, CT) led all first half scorers
with 11 points.
The Lancers turned it on in the second half as everyone dressed scored
and Worcester State shot a blistering 61.5% from the field in the second
frame.
Sheehan led the Lancers with 17 points on the day. Jarvis was
tremendous posting a double-double with 13 points, 11 rebounds and a
pair of blocked shots. Junior Ryan Frassica (Brockton, MA) and
Darren Schmidt (Shelburne Falls, MA) each reached double digits
with 12 and 10, respectively.
Fuller led the Hawks with a game-high 18 points. Sophomore guard
Jacob Russo (Sandwich, MA) chipped in with 10.
Worcester State opens up the MASCAC portion of their schedule on Tuesday
when they host the Falcons of Fitchburg State College. Becker is off
until Friday when they host Thomas College.
