Lancers Fall To Castleton
In NEWLA Semis, 12-6

Castleton, VT-Nicole Adams scored four goals and dished out one assist as
Castleton State College defeated Worcester State 12-6 in New England Women’s
Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) semifinal action. With the win the Spartans advance to
their first-ever NEWLA final.
Castleton raced out to a 4-0 lead after 3:05 in the first half with goals from
Adams, Marie VanDerKar, Nicole Bouchard and Erin Barry.
Worcester State got on the board with 12:07 remaining as Shannon Feeley tallied
the first of her game-high five goals off a Brittany Jamieson assist. The two
teams traded goals for the remainder of the period, and Castleton held an 8-4
advantage at halftime.
VanDerKar tallied to open the second half, before Adams scored the final three
goals of the game for the 10-6 Spartans.
All-conference first-team goalie, Lyndsey Nunes kept the Lancers in the game,
stopping 11 shots including seven in the second half. Second-team selection,
Meredith Pope was equal to the task however, turning away five shots to earn the
win.
Nicole Bouchard followed Adams in the scoring column with three goals and one
assist, while Marie VanDerKar added two goals, two assists, five ground balls,
three draw controls and six caused turnovers.
Jamieson scored Worcester State’s final goal of the game, as the Lancers end
their season at 9-5. Veronica Farrell was excellent in the Lancer defensive
third, corralling six ground balls and causing three turnovers.
Castleton will take on top-seed and NEWLA undefeated, Bridgewater State on
Saturday, May 3 at 2:00 pm. The Bears advanced to the championship round by way
of a 22-8 win over fourth-seed Westfield State.
