Worcester State College
Women's Lacrosse Game Recap

April 7, 2007

Worcester State Falls To WNEC, 13-7

Worcester, MA – In a rematch of last year’s championship game, the Worcester State College Lancer women’s lacrosse team lost their first New England Women’s Lacrosse Alliance game of the season as they fell to the Golden Bears of Western New England College Saturday afternoon on Coughlin Field in a battle of NEWLA undefeateds.  The loss drops the Lancers to 4-3 (3-1 NEWLA), while the Golden Bears improve to 5-3 (3-0) NEWLA.

WNEC got on the board first as senior attack Audrey Kelton (Wilder, VT) found the back of the net at 27:59 of the first half.  The Golden Bears held that, 1-0, advantage until the 13:59 mark when Worcester State sophomore Megan Rosborough (Uxbridge, MA) evened the score off a feed from fellow sophomore Shannon Feeley (W. Springfield, MA).  WNEC took the lead back at 12:07 on a score from Lindsey Fenton (Amherst, MA).  Worcester State would reply once again when Ann Clark (Worcester, MA) posted an unassisted goal to set the score at, 2-2, at 10:29.

That would be the last time the score would be tied as WNEC scored 7 unanswered goals including 5 to round out the first half.  Junior Kayte Devine (New Fairfield, CT) scored at 7:23 followed by a pair of Kelton goals to give WNEC a, 5-2, lead.  Freshman Rosalie Rodriguez (Norwalk, CT) potted a goal with 40 seconds remaining and Fenton converted a Lancer turnover with 28 seconds left in the half to send the teams to the break with WNEC holding a, 7-2, lead.

Kelton and Devine posted goals in the first five minutes of the second frame before back to back goals by Worcester State’s Clark and Meredith Godfroy (Tyngsboro, MA) cut the lead to, 9-4, with 23:07 remaining.

Fenton, junior Jill Caracciolo (Burnt Hills, NY) and freshman Cougar Moynihan (S. Glastonbury, CT) gave WNEC a 3-0 mini-run to give the Golden Bears an 8 goal advantage with just outside of 15 minutes to play.  The Lancers would close out the contest scoring 3 of the next 4 goals to set the, 13-7, final.

Lancer goaltender Lyndsey Nunes (W. Springfield, MA) made 12 saves in taking the loss, while WNEC keeper Brie Sylvia (W. Tisbury, MA) stopped 11 saves in the victory.

Clark led Worcester State with the hat trick followed by a pair of goals for Rosborough.  WNEC was paced by 4 goals and an assist from Kelton and a hat trick for Fenton.

Worcester State will return to action on Tuesday when they host Rhode Island College.  WNEC will back on the field on Tuesday when they host Western Connecticut.
