Worcester State Cruises Past Norwich, 18-3 

Worcester, MA – The Worcester State College Lancer women’s lacrosse team got back to their winning ways defeating Norwich University Thursday evening in the first ever meeting between the two team teams by the final tally of, 18-3, on a cold night in Coughlin Field.  The win improves the Lancers to 4-2 (3-0 NEWLA) while Norwich falls to 1-2 (1-1 NEWLA). 

Worcester State got on the board first posting a, 2-0, lead after goals by sophomore Shannon Feeley (W. Springfield, MA) and senior Ann Clark (Worcester, MA).  Norwich responded with a  goal by junior Kristen Lewis (Berlin, VT) to cut the Worcester State lead to, 2-1, less than three minutes into the game.  Freshman Brittany Jamieson (Foxboro, MA) then scored a pair of goals to up the Lancer advantage to, 4-1, before Norwich answered back with a score from freshman Kathleen Hennessy (Essex Junction, VT) to reset the score at, 4-2, with 23:03 remaining in the first half.  Worcester State then separated for good as they ripped off five unanswered goals.  Feeley scored a pair in the run with Clark, junior Erin MacDonald (Dedham, MA) and Meredith Godfroy (Tyngsboro, MA) each potting lone scores.  Hennessy then scored her second goal of the game which would prove to be Norwich’s last of the contest.  Jamieson, Feeley Godfroy and Clark would all score to close out the half for the Lancers.

In the second half, Worcester State netted five goals as goaltender Lindsey Nunes (W. Springfield, MA) and freshman Caitlin Early (Shrewsbury, MA) combined to hold Norwich scoreless in the half.  Clark tallied a pair of goals with junior Krystyna Kozakowski (Quinebaug, CT), MacDonald and freshman Abby Cosenza (Shrewsbury, MA) each finding the back of the net to close out the scoring.

Nunes made a pair of saves in getting her 4th win of the year.  Norwich keeper Katie Fraser (Coventry, RI) stopped 10 Lancer shots on the evening.

Feeley and Clark led all scorers with 7 points on the night.  Godfroy finished with 5 (2 goals, 3 assists) and Jamieson had 4 (3 goals, 1 assist).

Worcester State returns to the field on Saturday when they take on perennial NEWLA power Western New England College.  Norwich will host Lasell College on Saturday afternoon.
