Women's Lacrosse Game Recap

Women's Lacrosse Defeats Emerson, 21-4

Worcester, MA – The Worcester State College Lancer women’s lacrosse team defeated visiting New England Women’s Lacrosse Alliance foe Emerson College Saturday afternoon in their home opener at Coughlin Field by the final score of, 21-4.  The win improves the Lancers to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in conference action while the Lions fall to 1-3 and 0-2 in NEWLA play.

Sophomore Shannon Feeley (West Springfield, MA) broke a, 2-2, tie on a goal assisted by junior Krystyna Kozakowski (Quinebaug, CT) as Worcester State went on to score 10 unanswered goals in the first half.  Senior Ann Clark (Worcester, MA) posted 4 goals and 2 assists in the half as the Lancers took a, 14-2, lead into the intermission.  Feeley totaled 2 goals and 2 assists in the half while freshman Abby Cosenza (Shrewsbury, MA) potted a hat trick and Brittany Jamieson (Foxboro, MA) added a pair of goals.

The second half was more of the same from Worcester State as Feeley opened the second stanza with a goal followed by a pair from Clark.  Emerson College center Keri Angus (Coventry, RI) scored a pair of goals over the first 12 minutes of the second half for the Lions but the rest of the Emerson offense couldn’t get into gear.  Lancer Meredith Godfroy (Tyngsboro, MA) scored a pair of free position goals and Amanda Cosenza (Shrewsbury, MA) scored her second of the game.  Junior Linh Nguyen (Rockland, MA) closed out the scoring for the Lancers with her first goal of the season.

Goaltender Lyndsey Nunes (W. Springfield, MA) made 3 saves on the day before giving way to freshman Caitlin Early (Shrewsbury, MA).  Emerson goalkeeper Meghan Berg (Flemington, NJ) made 15 saves in taking the loss.

Clark led all scorers with 6 goals and 2 assists.  Feeley finished with the hat trick and 3 assists.  Godfroy, Amanda Cosenza, Brittany Jamieson and Abby Cosenza all contributed three points on the afternoon.  Along with Angus’ two goals the first half Emerson goals were scored by Jessie Kalikow (Chestnut Hill, MA) and Caitlin Wilson (Quincy, MA).

Worcester State will return to action on Tuesday when they host the Bears of Bridgewater State College.  Emerson will visit Curry College on Monday afternoon.
