February 19, 2008 Worcester State Falls in the Third, 6-3, To Salve Regina Auburn, MA – The Worcester State ice hockey team and the visiting Seahawks of Salve Regina University were tied, 3-3, through two periods of action before the visitors exploded for three third period scored to defeat the hosts, 6-3, Tuesday night at Horgan Arena. The Lancers fall to 2-20 (2-11 ECAC Northeast) while Salve Regina evens up their record at 9-9-3 (7-5-2 ECAC Northeast). Worcester State got on the board first as the first 7 minutes of the contest saw 4 goals. Ryan Hebert (Taunton, MA) scored off a feed from Matt Kail (Ridgewood, NJ) to give Worcester State a, 1-0, lead. Salve answered back with a pair of scores to take a, 2-1, lead. Mike Mallette (Johnston, RI) scored a power play goal at 3:56 to knot the game at a goal a piece. At 5:32 Ryan Peterson (Shrewsbury, NJ) gave the visitors the lead with an unassisted tally. Freshman Mark Elia (Worcester, MA) tied the game for Worcester State at 6:55 off assists by Matt Auwarter (Malverne, NY) and Mark Bucci (Sellersville, PA). Salve got the go ahead score at 13:32 when Bryan Russell (Essex Junction, VT) found Mike Kravchuk (Peabody, MA) Worcester State tied the game up at, 3-3, with the lone goal of the second period when Tom Ford (N. Grafton, MA) scored off passes from Justin Brownstein (Wyncote, PA) and sophomore Lee Belisle (Chicopee, MA). Salve got the game winner at 8:25 of the third on Petersen’s second of the game. Alex Casiano (Pembroke Pines, FL) and Jake Pickard (Welfleet, MA) rounded out the Seahawk scoring for the, 6-3, final. Anthony Oliveira (Stratham, NH) made 36 saves in the loss for Worcester State. Salve Regina’s Steve Belle-Isle (Portsmouth, NH) made 25 saves in the win. ##### |
