Lancers Hang In With ECAC NE Leader Curry College, 4-1

Auburn, MA – The Worcester State ice hockey team battled the ECAC Northeast’s top team Curry College tough all night, but fell to the visitors by the final tally of, 4-1, Thursday night at Horgan Arena in Auburn.  The loss drops the Lancers to 2-19 on the year (2-10 ECAC Northeast) while Curry improves to 13-8-1 (11-1-1 ECAC Northeast).

Worcester State got on the board first when senior Nathan Perreault (N. Smithfield, RI) tallied his first goal of the season on a power play at 6:10 of the first period.  The goal was assisted by Tom Ford (N. Grafton, MA) and Lee Belisle (Chicopee, MA).  Curry answered back with less than four minutes remaining in the first session when junior Louis Hoey (Doylestown, PA) scored the equalizer on assists by Jason Tarbell (Manchester, NH) and Jeremy Hmura (New Lenox, IL) to knot the game at, 1-1 after one period of action.

The teams played over 16 minutes of hockey in the second period before Curry notched the game winner on junior Jeffrey Hazelwood (Dublin, CA)’s 14th goal of the year.  Jason Yuel (Winnipeg, Manitoba) and James Pentecost (Marquette, MI) assisted on the game winner.  Sophomore Jarrett Rush (Pennington, NJ) added an insurance goal with 19:44 elapsed in the period to give Curry a, 3-1, lead after two periods.

Senior Timothy Grace (Marston Mills, MA) scored the lone goal in the third period for the 4-1 final score.

Dave Schultz (North Andover, MA) made 47 stops for the Lancers in the loss.  Counterpart Steven Jakiel (Santa Clarita, CA) made 22 saves in earning his 8th win of the year.
