Ice Hockey Drops Game To Fitchburg State, 10-1 FITCHBURG, Mass. – Fitchburg State College scored eight goals over the final two periods of play to defeat Worcester State College, 10-1, Wednesday night in ECAC Northeast men’s hockey action. Fitchburg State got the scoring started just 1:31 into the contest when Matt Arsenault (Gardner, MA) slide a pass to a cutting Andrew Hutton (Brewster,MA), who deposited the puck into the back of the net. Bobby Kaloustian (Malborough,MA) added the other assist on the goal. Mark Elia (Worcester, MA) tied the contest at 1-1 after Nathan Perrault (Smithfield, RI) slid a pass cross ice to an open Elia, who beat Falcons’ netminder Devon McConnell (Lake Stevens, WA) to the near side. Mark Bucci (Sellersville, PA) added the other assist on the game-tying tally. However, Kaloustian put the hosts on top for good with 2:29 to play in the opening period, out-racing the defense on a clearing puck and beating Lancers goalie Jason Richardson (Perkasie, PA) to the near side on an unassisted tally. Fitchburg State would put the game out of reach in the final two periods, finding the net four times in each period to secure the 10-1 victory over Worcester State. Andrew Jones (Franklin, MA) scored the first goal of the second period followed by goals from Billy Pescosolido (Framingham, MA), Hutton’s second of the game and Ryan Howe (Fitchburg, MA). The Falcons wrapped up the scoring in the third period with goals from Stephen Scholfield (Valley Village, CA), Zach Zulpa (Mentor, OH), Chris Fraterrigo (Laguna Hills, CA), and Arsenault. Richardson finished with 23 saves and David Schultz (N. Andover, MA) made 40 stops of his own while splitting time in net for the Lancers. McConnell turned away 18 shots and teammate Kevin Zwier (Buffalo Groves, IL) wrapped up the game with eight saves of his own, while sharing time in net for the Falcons. Fitchburg State returns to action on Friday night, hosting the Lord Jeffs of Amherst College at 7:00 pm at the Wallace Civic Center. Worcester State is back in action on Saturday December 8 when they travel to Johnson & Wales to take on the Wildcats at 7:10 pm. ##### |
