November 26, 2007 Lancers Can’t Withstand 3rd Period Surge; Fall 9-2 To Salem State Auburn, MA – The Worcester State ice hockey team trailed, 2-1, after two periods of action before the visiting Vikings scored 7 third period goals Monday night at Horgan Rink as the Lancers fell to the visitors by a, 9-2, final score in non-conference men’s ice hockey action. The Lancers drop to 1-6 overall on the year, while Salem State improves to 2-1. Salem State’s Jonathan Fecteau (St. Benoit, Quebec) opened the scoring at 10:47 of the first period to give the visitors a, 1-0, lead. Worcester State sophomore Dan Drinkwater (Walpole, MA) answered back at 16:25 to knot the contest at a goal apiece on his first goal of the season. The score would hold into the first intermission. The second period was scoreless through the first 15:42 before Salem State’s Chris MacInnis (Waltham, MA) notched the only tally of the second session off an assist from Brett Noll (Sandwich, MA) and Justin Fox (Whiby, Ontario) to give the Vikings a, 2-1, lead after two periods. Fox got the game-winner for Salem State 55 seconds into the final period on his fourth goal of the year to increase the Viking lead to, 3-1. Mike Genovese (Hingham, MA) increased the margin to, 4-1, less than two minutes later before Worcester State forward Tom Ford (Shrewsbury, MA) closed the gap to, 4-2, with what would prove to be the Lancers final goal of the night. Salem State went on to add 5 more goals over the final 12 minutes of action for the, 9-2, final score. Salem State’s Aaron Blades (Chino, CA) led the Vikings in scoring with 5 points including a hat trick. Fox followed with 4 points on a pair of goals and two assists. Salem State’s James Lacour (Silver Springs, MD) stopped 17 shots in getting his first win of the year. Lancer net minder Jason Richardson (Perkasie, PA) made 36 stops in the loss. Worcester State returns to action on Saturday when they host Suffolk University. Salem State returns to the ice on Friday when they travel to Middlebury College. ##### |
