November 18, 2007 Ice Hockey Falls to Becker, 6-1 (Courtesy Becker College Sports Information) Marlboro, MA – Freshman Anthony Libonati (McMinnville, OR) had a goal and two assists to lead the Becker Hawks to a 6-1 win over cross town rivals Worcester State College in an afternoon tilt at the New England Sports Center. The win was the first conference win for the Hawks since joining the ECAC Northeast this season. The Hawks even their record at 2-2, 1-1 ECAC Northeast and the Lancers drop to 1-5, 1-2 ECAC Northeast.
The Lancers jumped on the scoreboard first when Mark Rintel (Queens, NY) buried a Nathan Perreault (North Smithfield, RI) shot past Hawks goaltender Tony Stoehr (DePere, WI) at the 7:16 mark of the first period. It was the only goal that Stoehr would give up on the day. Hawks forward Derek Stabile (Sault Ste. Marie, MI) got the offense started when he scored his first of the season at 14:54 mark. Jared Kersner (Rockville, MD) and Mike Caprio (Valencia, CA) picked up the assists. The game winner was scored just 1:59 later when Robert Higgins (Grandville, MI) scored from Matt Oster (Stillwater, MN) and Libonati for a 2-1 lead going into the second stanza.
The second period was dominated by the goaltenders and penalties. Stoehr had eight saves in the period and finished the game with 26. Lancers net minder Jason Richardson had 14 saves in the period and a game high 41 saves on the night. The teams combined for 12 penalties for 24 minutes in the second.
Libonati put the game out of reach for the Hawks when he tallied just 2:32 in to the third period and set up Oster at the 7:00 minute mark to make it a 4-1 lead. Kersner scored at 9:48 and sophomore Kevin Sychowski (Allison Park, PA) picked up his first collegiate goal to make the final 6-1.
