WESTFIELD –
Freshman forward Rachel Dionne of Feeding Hills (Agawam)
scored with 14:21 left in the game to lift Westfield
State to a key 1-0 victory over Worcester State in the
field hockey conference opener.
The Owls improved to 3-0 while Worcester
State is 2-2. The Lancers sustained a 2-0 loss to
Springfield College last weekend.
Worcester State controlled play for most
of the first half, but the Westfield played on even
terms in the second half. For the game, the Lancers
outshot Westfield, 12-9.
Dionne scored the winning goal on a nice
cross pass from junior forward Kara Guittarr of Dedham.
Goalie Cat Hanks, a graduate student
from Somers, Conn., was stellar between the pipes for
the Owls. She recorded 11 saves, including several
outstanding stops.
