Henniker, NH – New England
College scored five second half goals to lift the Pilgrims
past the visiting Worcester State Lancers 5-4 Thursday
afternoon in Henniker. The win improves the Pilgrims to 7-5
overall, while the loss evens the Lancers record at 6-6.
The two teams would battle
through the opening 18 minutes scoreless before Worcester’s
Angela Johnson (Ashby, Mass.) would score her fourth goal of
the season off a nice pass from Colleen Flynn (Arlington,
Mass.) at the 18:09 mark. Worcester wouldn’t waste much
time extending the lead with Flynn scoring just 3:38 later
to put the Lancers up 2-0. The Lancer defense would stand
tough keeping the Pilgrim offense off the scoreboard
throughout the entire half and tack on a goal of their own
at the 31:43 mark to head into halftime ahead 3-0.
The Pilgrims would come out of
halftime on fire scoring three goals in the opening 6:30
minutes to tie the game at 3-3. NEC’s Heather DiNapoli
(Concord, N.H.) would net her first career goal to get the
Pilgrims on the board followed by goals from Amanda Lester
(Columbia, Conn.) and Jodie Dresser (Keene, N.H.)
The Pilgrims would take their
first lead of the game at the 50:25 mark with Sarah Feugill
(Derry, N.H.) scoring her eighth goal of the season.
Worcester’s Ginelle Blais (Marlboro, Mass.) would respond
just over a minute later, scoring her second goal of the
game and tying the game at 4-4.
NEC’s Khatianna Evans (Wayne,
Maine) would put in the game-winning goal scoring her first
goal of the season unassisted with just under 12 minutes
left to play as the Pilgrims would go on to capture the 5-4
victory.
