KEENE, N.H. - The top
seeded Keene State College field hockey team scored the
first four goals of the game in a span of five minutes
in the first half on the way to posting a 7-0 shutout
victory over eighth seed Worcester State College in a
quarterfinal Little East Conference tournament game
played Tuesday night in Keene.
Keene State
(16-5), which extended its winning streak to seven
games, will host fourth seed Bridgewater State in a
semifinal game on Thursday (6 p.m.) BSC defeated #5
Framingham State in its quarterfinal contest 3-2.
Erin Dallas
opened the scoring for KSC with her 10th goal of the
season at the 7:20 mark. The Owls scored the next three
goals within two minutes to take a commanding 4-0
halftime lead. Carly Benning (Brewster, Mass.) scored
twice and Amy Dolce (Windham, N.H.) found the back of
the net during the uprising.
“Everyone
came out hard today, “said Benning. “We just tried to
get the ball up the field as quick as we could and
create offensive opportunities. Hopefully, we can keep
up the intensity on Thursday.”
Dolce,
Benning, and Chelsea Blackmer (Boylston, Mass.) added
second half goals for the Owls, who have outscored
opponents 33-2 during their seven game winning streak.
With her three goals, Benning added to her team-leading
total of 15. Dolce has six goals this season.
Vikki
Stoessel (Derry, N.H.), with four saves and Jennifer
McDougall (Avon, Conn.) with one save shared the shutout
for KSC.
Stacie
Morse (Shrewsbury,Mass) had three saves and Kim Jamieson
(Townsend, Mass.) had five saves for the Lancers
(9-11). Both Morse and Jamieson are field players who
moved into the net due to injuries suffered by the
teams’ goalie Erin MacDonald.
