Field Hockey Earns LEC Playoff Berth

Worcester, MA – The Worcester State College Lancer field hockey team earned the final playoff spot in the upcoming Little East Conference playoffs by virtue of their, 4-0, win over the visiting Warriors of Eastern Connecticut State University Saturday afternoon on senior day at Coughlin Field.  The win by Worcester State places them in a mathematical tie with Eastern Connecticut at 4-7 in the conference but the Lancers win the tiebreaker due to the head to head victory.

After a scoreless first half, the Lancers got on the board when senior Kara Walker (Templeton, MA) tipped home a pass from junior Jill Tamburro (Marlboro, MA) to give Worcester State a, 1-0, lead with 23:49 remaining in the contest.  The goal was Walker’s team leading eighth of the season

Walker struck again for her ninth of the year and second tally of the day when freshman Angela Johnson (Ashby, MA) made a beautiful pass to a wide open Walker with 17:02 remaining in the game.

Walker and Johnson were at it again with 2:53 remaining with Johnson getting her 8th goal of the season assisted by Walker to give Worcester State the, 3-0, lead.

Worcester State closed out the scoring with no time on the clock when Kate Fisher (Greenfield, MA) scored off a pass from freshman Meghan Feehan (Lunenburg, MA) during a penalty corner for the, 4-0, final.

Worcester State goaltender Stacie Moore (Shrewsbury, MA) made 6 saves on the afternoon in earning her second straight shutout.  Eastern Connecticut net minder Tia Mucciarone (Franklin, MA) stopped 6 shot sin the loss.

Worcester State will travel to the top seeded Keene State Owls on Tuesday in the Little East quarterfinals.  Eastern Connecticut closes out their season with a final record of 6-12.
