Gets By UMass Dartmouth, 2-0
Worcester, MA
– In a game between two teams battling to stay in the Little
East playoff picture, the Worcester State College Lancers
beat the visiting Corsairs of UMass-Dartmouth by the final
score of, 2-0, Tuesday evening at Worcester State’s Coughlin
Field. The win nudges the Lancers back over .500 overall at
6-5 and improves them to 2-4 in Little East action. UMass-Dartmouth
falls to 3-7 and 1-5 in LEC play.
Worcester State opened the scoring with 32:10
remaining in the first half when senior Kara Walker
(Templeton, MA) continued her recent torrid scoring pace
when she converted on a feed from junior Ginelle Blais
(Marlboro, MA). The goal was Walker’s team-leading
sixth of the season. The, 1-0, lead would stand the rest of
the half as Worcester State out shot the Corsairs, 6-3.
With 17:45 remaining in the second half,
Worcester State goaltender Erin MacDonald (Dedham, MA)
made a stellar save on a stroke by UMass-Dartmouth’s
Caitlin DeCecca (Springfield, MA) to preserve the, 1-0,
lead.
At 13:43 remaining in the second half, junior
Megan Rosborough (Uxbridge, MA) added an unassisted
insurance goal for the Lancers to increase the Worcester
State lead to, 2-0. The goal was Rosborough’s second of the
year.
MacDonald finished the night with 12 saves as
the Corsairs increased their offensive pressure in the
second half, while counterpart Liz Fitzgerald (Danvers,
MA) also stopped 12 shots.
Worcester State will be back on the field on
Thursday when they travel to take on the Pilgrims of New
England College in a non-conference game. UMass Dartmouth
will host Trinity College on Thursday afternoon.
