Worcester, MA
– The Worcester State College field hockey team fell to
Little East foe Plymouth State University Saturday afternoon
by the final score of, 3-1, at Coughlin Field. The loss
deals a blow to Worcester State’s playoff homes dropping
them to 7-10 (3-7 LEC). Plymouth State improves to 9-5 (8-2
LEC).
Plymouth State opened the scoring with 25:40
remaining in the first half when sophomore Morgan Lemmon
(Gilford, NH) scored off a penalty corner. Junior
Ashley Gutowski (Conway, NH) was credited with the
assist.
Worcester State tied the game up at, 1-1,
when junior Ginelle Blais (Marlboro, MA) found
freshman Angela Johnson (Ashby, MA) who rocketed a
shot home with 10:51 left in the first half.
Plymouth State answered right back with 8:45
remaining in the first half when Kerry D’Ambroise
(Lowell, MA) cleaned up a scrum in front of the net to
put the visitors up, 2-1.
In the second half with 18:05 remaining,
Plymouth State increased their lead to, 3-1, when senior
co-captain Rachel Kirschner (Burlington, CT) hit a
shot that Lancer keeper Erin MacDonald (Dedham, MA)
got a piece of but it trickled into the net.
MacDonald made 9 saves on the afternoon,
while Panther net minder Leah Curtin (Londonderry, NH)
made 2 stops in the victory.
Worcester State will return to action on
Tuesday when they travel to Becker College. Plymouth State
will travel to travel to Springfield College for an evening
contest.
