Worcester State Falls To Keene State, 3-1
Worcester, MA
– The Worcester State Lancer field hockey team held
perennial power Keene State to a scoreless draw in the first
half before the Owls scored 3 unanswered second half goals
to defeat the hosts, 3-1, Friday night at Coughlin Field.
The loss drops the Lancers to 6-9 (2-6 LEC), while Keene
State improves to 10-7 (7-1 LEC).
Worcester State opened the scoring with 32:30
remaining in the second half when senior Kara Walker
(Templeton, MA) scored her team leading 7th
goal of the season to give the Lancers a, 1-0, advantage.
Keene State answered back with 23:51 remaining when
sophomore Karen Robinson (Phillipston, MA) converted
a feed from midfielder Erin Dallas (Marlow, NH) to
tie the game at, 1-1.
Keene State got the game-winner with 20:28
remaining when senior Marissa Boccaccio (Lyme, CT)
blasted a shot home off a pass from Dallas on a Keene State
penalty corner to give the visitors a, 2-1 advantage.
With 6:51 remaining the Owls were awarded a
penalty stroke which Dallas converted to increase the Keene
State lead to, 3-1.
Worcester State goalkeeper Erin MacDonald
(Dedham, MA) made 21 saves on the night, while her
counterpart Vikki Stoessel (Derry, NH) made 8 saves
for the Owls.
Worcester State will return to action on next
Wednesday when they travel to Little East foe Western
Connecticut. Keene State will be back on the field Sunday
when they host RPI.
