Worcester State Loses To Nichols College, 3-2
Worcester, MA
– The Worcester State field hockey team dropped a, 3-2,
decision to the visiting Bison of Nichols College on a
drizzly Wednesday night at Coughlin Field. The Lancers fall
to 6-8 on the year while the Bison improve to 10-4.
All the scoring would come in the first half
as freshman Samantha Lacerra (Watertown, MA) opened
the scoring with an assist credited to junior Lauren
Pettoruto (Windham, NH) to give the Bison a, 1-0 lead.
Worcester State answered back less than two
minutes later as junior Kim Cosenza (Fitchburg, MA)
blasted home the equalizer off a pass from senior
Kara Walker (Templeton, MA).
The Lancers would take the lead with 14:12
remaining in the first half when junior Megan Rosborough
(Uxbridge, MA) potted a goal off a feed from freshman
Erin Moore (Brimfield, MA).
Nichols would tie the game up at, 2-2, with
11:14 remaining in the first half when freshman Eileen
Clinton (Londonderry, NH) scored her first of two
goals in the contest with Beverly Burrill (Bridgewater,
MA) earning the assist.
Nichols got the game-winner with less than
three minutes to play in the first frame when Clinton struck
again for her second tally of the contest.
Worcester State goaltender Erin MacDonald (Dedham, MA)
made 9 saves on the day, while her counterpart MaryKate
Bednarz (Springfield, MA) made 7 stops in earning the
win.
Worcester State returns to action on Friday
when they return to Little East Conference action hosting
Keene State College. Nichols College will be back on the
field Saturday when they visit Gordon College.
